Eva Ward is a former teacher who lives in Brownfield, Maine. The book is illustrated by her daughter, Deborah Ward York, who was one of Calvin's rescuers.
Calvin C. Waxwing (Beech River Books, 2006) is a children's book about the rescue of a hatchling Cedar Waxwing by three young children. Although this attempt to interfere with nature was successful, the author raises questions about whether it is a wise practice, since most often the animal is not truly abandoned. The parent may be nearby, waiting for the humans to leave, and would then retrieve and care for their young.
