Working on Becoming Invisible Poetry
Brad and Dawn Marion live in a small hamlet in northern New England where they riff off of each other’s creative energies and try to maintain a sustainable lifestyle.
A character of many of these poems is a sailor named Noah who somehow survives the disasters of his age and finds himself relocated in a place where little of the world in which he grew up in remains. Tough, resilient, at times a bit nostalgic, his traumatic experiences leave their mark. He is said to have a special connection to God, yet is no saint, prophet, hero—just an ordinary man who tries to face challenges and make his way through a time of change as best he can.
Our times, too, are challenging. Some look to God, some question, some swirl up imaginary realms, fantastic images. Some sway in a dance with nature, seduced by art, beauty, connections that lie at the edge of reality, the frothy, willowy world of spirits, wonders, mystery. Some are activists, looking for a sensible way through the blare of divisiveness, commercialism, and unsustainable squander and waste. Perhaps that way can be found in the garden, its fruits, in the flavors and aromas that emanate from the great kitchen, in the ways of everyday folk, in familiar and loving arms that tenderly embrace us and share our pain, our joy. Perhaps the trick is to dissolve, to carry no baggage into the next world, to go unnoticed, to work on becoming invisible.
